The Story of AUMI
My journey began during one of my OPD days when I found myself using a conventional slit lamp. Much like my colleagues, I encountered challenges in capturing detailed images of both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. Frustrated by the limitations of the existing equipment, I couldn't help but wonder if there was a superior solution.
Fueled by curiosity and determination, I embarked on a quest to create that solution. Countless late nights and weekends were dedicated to researching, sketching ideas, and experimenting with various prototypes. My objective was crystal clear: to develop adapters capable of seamlessly transforming a standard slit lamp into a powerful and versatile tool for capturing both anterior and posterior eye segments.
Throughout this arduous journey, I encountered numerous obstacles. I had to acquire knowledge in optics, engineering, and design, all while balancing the demands of my residency. Yet, my unwavering commitment and passion for effecting change propelled me forward. Seeking guidance from my experienced mentor, Dr. Swathi, I collaborated with engineers and connected with fellow residents who shared my vision.
After months of relentless effort and multiple iterations, I finally achieved my goal. I created the AUMI View AS and AUMI View PS adapters, two revolutionary devices that would redefine slit lamp and fundus photography. The AUMI View AS facilitated detailed anterior segment imaging, while the AUMI View PS enabled comprehensive posterior segment photography. Both were designed to be affordable, ensuring advanced eye care was accessible to a broader audience.
